NAFSA Knowledge Community (KC) Networks & Resources

NAFSA's five knowledge communities develop and disseminate information, publications, and training for networks of international education professionals. Teams of volunteer leaders coordinate the work of each knowledge community.

Education Abroad
This knowledge community serves:
* Education abroad advisers, directors, and program coordinators
* Faculty and administrators who are involved in international educational exchange
* Representatives of overseas institutions that accept U.S. students


International Education Leadership (IEL)
This knowledge community serves:
* Administrators who shape internationalization policies and strategies
* Chief international education officers
* Mid-career professionals aspiring to be international education leaders


International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)
This knowledge community serves:
* International student and scholar advisers
* Those who work or volunteer in campus- and community-based international programming


Recruitment, Admissions, and Preparation (RAP)
This knowledge community serves:
* Those working in admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, marketing, and credential evaluation
* Trainers and administrators of English language programs
* Overseas educational advisers
* Sponsored program administrators


Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (TLS)
This knowledge community serves:
* International and intercultural teachers and trainers
* Researchers focused on international topics
* Professionals who want to incorporate existing research into their practice

Historical Note: Prior to 2005 there were five sections within NAFSA and two Professional Educator Groups (PEG's):

  • ADSEC: Admissions Section
  • ATESL: Association of Teachers of English as a Second Language
  • CAFSS: Council on Foreign Students and Scholars
  • COMSEC: Community Section
  • SECUSSA: Section on US Students Abroad
  • Overseas Educational Advisors (OSEAS)
  • Sponsoring and Programming Agencies (SPA)

Listservs and Electronic Resources

The members of NAFSA's TechSIG volunteer their efforts in many areas to provide NAFSA members with electronic communication tools. Among these efforts are listservs and electronic resources, such as INTER-L (To be deactivated Fall 2006) and SECUSS-L, both of which serve as a tools for professionals in the field of international education and discussions of topics important to NAFSAns.
