1. WES Seminar: "Partners in International Enrollment"

Dear Colleague,

As the Regional Manager for World Education Services (WES) West Coast Office, I am pleased to invite you to attend a WES "Partners in International Enrollment" seminar. We are organizing seminars in San Francisco on Monday, April 4th, Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 5th and in San Diego on Wednesday, April 6th. The program is designed for campus professionals who work in international admissions.
Kevin Rolwing, Assistant Director at WES, will join me in discussing current issues in international credential evaluation, including document recognition and authentication. He will also discuss the methods and processes used by an international credential evaluation service. Kevin has fifteen years of experience and extensive knowledge of credential evaluation issues and has presented his research at numerous regional and national conferences. The session is offered free of charge and there will be ample time for questions and discussion. You are welcome to extend this invitation to any of your campus colleagues who would benefit.

2. CALL FOR CAMPUS HOSTS

FALL 2005 U.S. BASED TRAINING PROGRAM FOR OVERSEAS EDUCATIONAL ADVISERS

The College Board announces opportunities for accredited U.S. two- and
four-year higher education institutions and specialized schools to host
participants for one week (October 30 - November 4) during the Fall 2005
U.S. Based Training Program for Overseas Educational Advisers (USBT). This
annual professional development program for EducationUSA advisers is
sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs (ECA), under authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as
amended.
Campus groups needed:
Four clusters of varied institutional types/missions (up to 5 institutions
per cluster - must include graduate level) sought for groups of 4-6 advisers
each. Geographic diversity is a major selection criterion.

TITLE: Coordinator, International Outreach & Leadership (Extended Education Specialist II, Exempt)
INSTITUTION: San Jose State University

SALARY RANGE: $3,943 - $5,336 per month (Hiring salary generally at the beginning of the range)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director, International Outreach and Leadership Program, the International Recruiter is responsible for supporting the development, marketing, recruitment, and coordination of a wide range of SJSU educational and training programs for foreign nationals. Working independently, under direction, the International Recruiter plans, organizes, and executes recruitment and outreach strategies for both IES non-credit programs and SJSU degree-seeking international students. Responsibilities cover a wide spectrum including developing marketing plans and advertising strategies, networking and strong outreach efforts, and representing the IES worldwide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Promotion and Recruitment
1. Formulates a marketing plan and advertising strategies to distribute materials and promote SJSU/IES programs.
2. Gathers and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to establish effective promotional plans.
3. Identifies problems and potential problems in relation to current recruitment activities, adjusting approaches accordingly to improve execution of the recruitment plan.
4. Develops and updates promotional material, such as program catalog and other printed material, video, CD-ROM, Web pages, etc.
5. Keeps abreast of current immigration regulations of Immigration and Naturalization Service and visa issuance policies of the U.S. Department of State.

Representation
1. Develops and maintains relationships with international student advisory agencies, clients, and the University.
2. Plans and undertakes overseas recruitment trips of 1 to 3 weeks in length.
3. Represents SJSU/IES at international recruitment fairs.
4. Conducts presentations at overseas education fairs, universities, other institutions of higher learning, and high schools.
5. Meets with international student advisory agencies and individual students.
6. Collects and analyzes socio-economic data for other countries and the number of students sent abroad to make strategic recommendations regarding locations of programs to visit on overseas trips.

Develops and Coordinates Special Cohort Programs
1. Initiates correspondence with international student advisory agencies, universities, and government agencies, and develops proposals for each client.
2. Creates itineraries, lists of services to be provided to clients, and terms and conditions for participation in cohort programs.
3. Oversees operations, ensuring that required services are provided to participants and provides orientations to the groups.
4. Coordinates the development of programs, working with instructors, professional organizations, and campus departments and colleges.
5. Networks with prospective clients world-wide to market and develop new contracts for foreign-born professional and adult learners.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typical office environment with Personal Computer and other standard office equipment. Occasionally works at off-campus sites, both domestic and abroad, including schools, exhibit booths at international fairs, hotel business centers, and other related work sites as necessary. Work involves occasional overseas travel for intervals of up to 3 weeks to participate in recruitment activities and represent the University at special functions as needed. Tasks may involve extended period of time at a keyboard of workstation or sitting in a commercial jet aircraft. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort and may occasionally involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, business writing, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports.

2. Working knowledge of software applications, such as: word processing, spreadsheet, and database management. Ability to quickly learn how to use the PeopleSoft database to access student information.

3. Knowledge of the procedures and practices in educational program and curriculum planning in education. Knowledge of the processes required to plan and construct academic programs and course outlines.

4. Knowledge of the principles and practices for marketing, promoting, and developing educational programs and recruiting international students. Ability to develop and implement marketing, advertising, and recruitment strategies.

5. Ability to perform financial planning for existing and new programs, estimate and analyze costs and revenues, develop cost-effective budgets, and evaluate the financial feasibility of activities.

6. Strong oral communication skills. Ability to represent the SJSU/IES to universities, other institutions of higher learning, high schools, governments, and other agencies world-wide, and to develop working relationships. Ability to advise students both one-on-one and in large groups as well as develop and conduct presentations before economically and culturally diverse audiences with sensitivity to cultural mores and customs.

7. Ability to travel overseas occasionally for up to 3 weeks per trip, visit off-campus locations, and to work some evenings and weekends.

8. Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and procedures, especially as they relate to international students, including SJSU-IES course offerings, SJSU admission requirements, transferability of credit for courses completed abroad.

9. Ability to quickly learn Immigration and Naturalization Service and State Department requirements pertaining to visas for foreign nationals studying in the USA, and the ability to explain and interpret these regulations to international applicants and students.

10. A valid California Driver's license is required at time of hire for the operation of any vehicle required for this position. Must be able to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for CSU campuses and pass the course exam.

11. Equivalent to a bachelor's degree, preferably with courses in adult education and curriculum planning, and three years of experience in planning classes and curriculum for higher or extended education programs, preferably for international students, including developing resources, budgets, and marketing plans. Preferred Qualifications: master's degree in a related field; fluency in two or more languages; and overseas living/ working experience.

This position requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
