2. Baden-Wuerttemberg Seminar in Germany
====================================================
On behalf of the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts in Baden-
Wuerttemberg, Germany, AACRAO (the American Association of
Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) and NAFSA: Association
of International Educators are pleased to announce the next Baden-
Wuerttemberg Seminar, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany
November 6-13, 2005.

The deadline for application is Wednesday, March 9. For detailed

A presentation on the Baden-Wuerttemberg Seminar is also on the

3. Position Opening at University of California San Diego
====================================================
TITLE: STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICER I (100% Career)
INSTITUTION: International Center, University of California San Diego
LOCATION : San Diego, California
DEADLINE (OR CLOSING DATE): 03/04/2005
SALARY RANGE: $2,516.67/mo - $3,533.33/mo
STARTING DATE: N/A

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Senior International Student Advisor, with
general work direction from others, the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator
will take a leading role at the International Center in providing extensive
campus and community outreach and programming. Collaborate interactively
with a broad range of UCSD offices, service units, programming staff, and
networks to develop and implement programs and provide meaningful
opportunities for cultural and educational exchange for international
students and scholars, as well as the greater community. Oversee current
International Center volunteers programs, including the Friday Cafe,
American-English-in-Action Tutor program, International Partners, three-day
homestay program, and the American Pie community service project. Recruit
volunteers and event sponsors, fundraise, organize professional-level
volunteer training sessions and workshops, match participants and
volunteers, and organize volunteer recognition events. Provide work
assignments to senior-level International Center student interns. Advise
family dependents, accompanying international students and scholars,
encouraging participation in the cross-cultural experience. Work closely
with other UCSD organizations to initiate campus-wide intellectual programs
and elevate international and cross-cultural skills and awareness. Lead the
International Center's programmatic outreach to other campus offices and
liaison with Oceanids, the Friends of the International Center, and campus
community organizations. Position requires attendance at occasional evening
and/or weekend programs; attendance at professional conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Demonstrated ability to exercise diplomacy, patience, and flexibility with
diverse student populations and a wide variety of people, including
community volunteers, international visitors, and campus staff.
-Experience communicating effectively with people from other cultures who
have limited English language skills.
-Demonstrated clear, concise writing skills for publicity and program
brochures and forms, newsletter articles, handbooks, correspondence and web
editing.
-Excellent public speaking skills for motivating student and community
volunteers, including non-native English speaking audiences.
-Experience in interacting cooperatively and supportively with community
volunteers and generating enthusiastic participation in volunteer programs.
-Knowledge of techniques of group dynamics, human relations and leadership
training.
Preferred:
-Knowledge of English-as-a-Second-Language theories and practices,
including assessment, placement and teaching methodologies.
