Position Opening at San Diego State University

TITLE: STUDENT SERVICES PROFESSIONAL II -Full-time temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2005, with possibility for reappointment.

INSTITUTION: San Diego State University

LOCATION : San Diego, CA

SALARY RANGE: $3,173 - $4,278 mo. Initial placement is based on knowledge, skills and abilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Study Abroad Adviser works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Education Abroad and is directly responsible for independently designing, developing, implementing and evaluating a full range of services and programs which meet the international objectives of the university and the special needs of students seeking or engaged in study abroad programs. The incumbent will assist marketing SDSU study abroad program to meet campus participation goals; assist advising students on SDSU’s 190+ study abroad/exchange programs; assist developing and maintaining the Study Abroad Resource Library; design and coordinate Study Abroad Inquiry Response System and Alumni Outreach Program; assess and evaluate student participation in SDSU Study Abroad programs; direct and monitor student assistants in completing various projects; perform tasks as required: develop reports, flyers special events, etc

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Minimum qualifications include equivalent to two years of experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one-year of the professional experience. Must have working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; general knowledge of research and interview techniques; and general knowledge of principles of individual and group behavior. Must have the ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; ability to obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; ability and interest in working with a diverse population and sensitivity to the needs of all students.; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of SDSU.          

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in an internationally related field and three years experience in international student programming is preferred. Previous study abroad or international living experience is highly preferred.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

Must have three years experience in international student programming. Demonstrated skills in computer literacy, including word processing, graphic design, desktop publishing, database management, web design, and spreadsheets.
