Southern District will meet with DHS Officials on October 5, 2006
=================================================================
"The Southern District Student Working Group will meet with the
Department of Homeland Security Officials on October 5, 2006. This will
be a closed meeting and representatives from the Citizenship and
Immigration Services (CIS) District and California Service Center (CSC),
Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) will be present. While individual cases will not be
discussed, this group will discuss policy and regulatory changes that
affect international students and scholars. If you have any questions
or concerns and would like to see that included in the agenda for
discussion, please send your questions via e-mail to Madjid Niroumand at
Madjid@cccd.edu. You will receive a reply to your question via e-mail.
Please e-mail your questions to Madjid no later than Thursday, September
14, 2006."

CALL FOR REGIONAL AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominations Due: October 13, 2006

This is your opportunity to show appreciation for the work that a colleague has accomplished. Each year, NAFSA Region XII recognizes individuals and/or organizations that have made contributions to NAFSA, to Region XII, and to the field of international education. All of us know some impressive and talented colleagues in international education, and Region XII believes strongly that their good work and dedication to the field be given their deserved recognition and appreciation. Your nomination may recognize an extraordinary accomplishment, dedicated service, special initiative, service to the larger benefit of students, scholars and colleagues, or other qualities and deeds that exemplify the best in our colleagues and international education.

Nominations are being accepted for the following two awards:

Service in International Education Award:
One award will be given that recognizes an individual's or organization's significant overall contribution to Region XII, NAFSA, and international education.
Criteria:
Nominated by one or more NAFSA members
Significant contributions to international education over a period of at least five years
Strong commitment to NAFSA’s mission

Outstanding Service to International Education Award:
One or more awards will be given that recognize individuals and/or organizations who have performed above and beyond the call of duty in various areas within Region XII.
Criteria:
Nominated by one or more NAFSA members
Endorsed by chair of section and/or district most closely affiliated with nominee
NAFSA member for at least 10 years
Region XII member for at least 5 years
Current members of the Region XII team are ineligible
Contributions to Region XII must be documented in at least three different areas
