Work Schedule: This position requires attendance at occasional evening and/or weekend programs; attendance at professional conferences.

DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Senior International Student Advisor, with general work direction from the Director, Associate Director, and staff of the International Center, the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator will take a leading role at the International Center in providing extensive campus and community outreach and programming.

Collaborate interactively with a broad range of UCSD offices, service units, programming staff, and networks to develop and implement programs and provide meaningful opportunities for cultural and educational exchange for international students and scholars, as well as the greater community.

Oversee current International Center volunteer programs, including the Friday Cafe, American-English-In-Action Tutor program, International Partners program, three-day home stay program, and the American Pie community service project. Recruit volunteers and event sponsors, find sponsors, organize professional-level volunteer training sessions and workshops, match participants and volunteers, and organize volunteer recognition events.

Provide work assignments to International Center Student Interns, who initiate events and advise the International Club and International Partners Program, and work cooperatively with the Cross-Cultural Center and I-House. Recruit, train, coordinate, and provide recognition to over 1,000 volunteers who welcome, orient, tutor, and host international students and scholars at UCSD. Develop and maintain evaluation procedures for programs.

Advise family dependents accompanying international students and scholars, encouraging participation in the cross-cultural experience. This includes guiding and supporting families in accomplishing very practical tasks, as well as transitioning to living in the USA.

Work closely with the staff of International House, the Cross-Cultural Center, the UCSD International Programming Forum, and the UCSD community, to initiate campus-wide intellectual programs, and elevate international and cross-cultural skills and awareness. Lead the International Center's programmatic outreach to other campus offices and liaison with Oceanids, the Friends of the International Center, and campus community organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Expert demonstrable skill and experience in campus and community outreach. Expert working knowledge of campus-wide publicity channels. Working knowledge of University policies and procedures. Preferred.

· Excellent interviewing and advising skills. Ability to elicit appropriate information within limited timeframe and assess individual needs and make referrals.

· Experience communicating effectively with people from other cultures who have limited English language skills.

· Excellent public speaking skills for motivating student and community volunteers, including non-native English speaking audiences.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to project an open, friendly, and genuine interest in individual international visitors and community volunteers. Demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural communication and adjustment issues to international visitors.

· Experience in interacting cooperatively and supportively with community volunteers and generating enthusiastic participation in volunteers programs. Professional knowledge of volunteer program development and management.

· Knowledge of techniques of group dynamics, human relations and leadership training.

TITLE: Program Director
INSTITUTION: American Language and Culture Institute

SALARY RANGE: $3,850-$4,584 monthly ($46,200-55,000 annually)
STARTING DATE: As soon as possible

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Director is responsible for overall operations of the ALCI
programs and oversees all aspects of international program development,
implementation, and administration within RCE. This position works
directly under the supervision of the Dean of Regional and Continuing
Education. Responsibilities include:

Administrative - Administers all aspects of the intensive English
program and RCE international projects, including academic program,
admissions, and student support services * Proposes, plans, and
implements program budgets to ensure sound financial management *
Develops, interprets, and implements policies regarding programs and
students

* Ensures compliance with all CSU, Chico, CSU, Chico Research
Foundation, and USCIS/ICE policies and regulations

* Develops and maintains productive relationships across campus, within
the CSU system, nationally, and internationally on behalf of RCE
programs

* Member of the administrative team for the Center for Regional and
Continuing Education * Participates in Center strategic planning and
goal setting

Program Planning and Development - Develops, implements, and modifies
curriculum as appropriate

* Establishes program priorities and coordinates program operations by
identifying appropriate instructional and administrative resources,
including: instructors; physical/technical resources such as teaching
materials, equipment, and supplies; student services; and classrooms

* Prepares grant and contract proposals

* Maintains a high level of knowledge of current trends in international
higher education and ESL.

Outreach/Marketing - Develops and implements outreach plans

* Recruits students and agents through activities that involve
international travel

* Develops customer relationship management systems for prospects,
participants, and graduates of RCE international programs in
coordination with marketing personnel, including web site, electronic
communications, promotional and program resource materials

* Networks with other Institutions of Higher Education programs to share
information, track trends, and identify areas for effective
collaboration.

Personnel - Recruits, supervises, and evaluates all program
administrative and instructional staff

* Promotes effective communication within RCE and facilitates regular
meetings

* Develops and promotes instructor and staff development opportunities.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Requires a Masters Degree in TESL or a related
area and a minimum of two years experience in intensive English program
administration including faculty and staff development, curriculum
development,

and budget development and management. Must demonstrate administrative
background experience sufficient to illustrate the ability to perform
the job responsibilities outlined above. Requires background in
recruiting and marketing international student programs, preferably
Intensive English Programs (IEPs). Position will require the ability to
travel locally, nationally, and internationally.
